Without a doubt Granada is one of Spain’s jewels. The city is about 15 minutes away from Medina Elvira and is famous around the world for its stunning Alhambra Palace which is perched on a high hill and overlooks much of Granada. Visitors are usually overwhelmed by its beauty and indeed George Clooney and Antonio Banderas among others are supporting the petition for the Alhambra to be nominated as one of the 10 new wonders of the world. Granada is also home to a host of other sightseeing opportunities including a science park with many activities for children and the city has a rich Moorish heritage.
Many of Granada's most historic tourist attractions are located in the Old Quarter (Parte Vieja) and the Albayzin district, both of which are known for their al fresco dining and endless array of shops. First time visitors to Granada are surprised (and delighted) to find that the “tapas culture” thrives in the city. Not only are they good, they're also free! Just order a drink and in most bars you'll be given a tapa with it. Granada is truly a magical experience! |
